ABB and Octopus forge EV charging deal
Swiss power electronics multinational ABB and UK-based clean energy business Octopus have joined forces to help companies accelerate their transition to developing electric vehicle fleets.
The new pairing will see Octopus assist companies source not only the financing required to switch to EVs, but also the renewable energy supply that the vehicles will need.
Potential operators will be able to source mobility investment from Octopus through flexible financing models. For example, Octopus has deployed an innovative pay-as-you-drive system to finance the new LEVC taxis that can be seen on the roads of London.
ABB will back this service up by enabling the infrastructure solutions required for a fleet to make the switch to electric, offering fleet managers EV charging infrastructure.
The two companies will also work together to develop further e-mobility offerings that will support fleet operators to make the transition to operating emission-free fleets.
ABB currently offers charging solutions for commercial fleets ranging from 3-600kW and the company has sold over 10,000 chargers in 73 countries.
As well as dealing with fleet operators, ABB has also been involved in the development of destination charging services. For example, in March, the company signed a deal to supply the international convenience store and fuel retailer Circle K with EV chargers.
