ChargePoint to support electric buses in San Francisco
Electric vehicle charging network ChargePoint has forged an agreement with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) that will pave the way for the company to deploy charging infrastructure to support electric buses in the city.
The deal means that ChargePoint’s Express Plus charging system will be installed at the Woods Bus Yard in the south of the city. The instillation is expected to fuel the first full battery electric buses in San Francisco when they take to the streets at the start of 2020.
SFMTA is planning to completely electrify its entire bus fleet by 2025 and the work at the Woods Bus Yard is expected to reach a conclusion next Autumn, when nine electric San Francisco buses enter service.
ChargePoint will utilise its high-powered charging solutions on the project and will install nine ChargePoint Express Plus DC solutions, a number that will no-doubt rise in the future. Power will be provided by nine ChargePoint Power Blocks.
Bus company staff will also have at their disposal several energy management tools that will monitor usage in order to ensure a consistent service.
Chargepoint has also recently announced that it has done a deal with Dover Fuelling Solutions to install EV chargers at their forecourt retail and commercial locations across North America.
As well as this, earlier in the year, ChargePoint and Electrify America announced a roaming partnership that will further expand access to US EV charging, allowing drivers to seamlessly charge their EVs on public chargers, jumping between both networks.
